What Causes Panic Attacks? Understanding Your Baseline Stress Levels
What Causes Panic Attacks? Understanding Your Baseline Stress Levels
When we start to feel anxious in our lives, our bodies release hormones that can make us react to any kind of a threat. If our anxiety gets out of control (e.g., panic attacks) our response can occur even at times when the situation we are in is quite calm.
Stress is a common cause of raising a person’s general level of anxiety or tension. If you have a stressful life or certain situations that are stressful in your life, then this may set the stage for a panic attack by making you more wound-up and tense. Then, it doesn’t take as much to trigger an anxiety attack. If you find this happening it is important to obtain some structured, high-quality training in relaxation skills.
A physical illness that comes along with the stress of daily life may also raise your basic level of tension when you “relaxed.” There are conditions like a overactive thyroid gland that can produce anxiety along with other signs and symptoms. Sometimes heredity can play a part in panic attacks, because it can run in the family. Your personality type can make you prone to anxiety disorders if you try to control things beyond your control. People with needs that have not been met like relationship needs, feel less secure and are also at risk for panic attacks.
